Q. |
Is your pottery oven proof? |
|
A.
|
The short answer is yes. The major cause for pottery breakage
is heat shock. Our suggestion for a long and happy life span
for all pots is: Do not place pottery in a pre-heated oven,
start from a cold oven.

Q. |
Is your pottery Microwave safe? |
|
A.
|
In short the answer is yes, our pottery is safe to use in
a microwave oven. My advice to you would be not to use pottery
in a microwave oven with less than half full with contents.
The reason is that the thermal shock would be too great from
top to bottom (if the contents level is too low). What is detrimental
to clay pots is heat shock.

Q. |
Is your pottery dishwasher safe? |
|
A.
|
Yes. It is highly recommended to wash dishes as often as
possible. Water and detergent are not harmful to glazed pottery
but how one stacks dishes in the dishwasher is. When stacking
dishes in a dishwasher pay attention so the rims of pots do
not rest against rough surfaces from other dishes.

Q. |
What is "Majolica"? |
|
A.
|
The term majolica refers to a glaze technique
where an opaque glaze is applied to bisque ware and then washes
of colour, are painted on the raw glaze. Originally this type
of ware was imported into Europe from the Middle East through
the Island of Majorca (which is off the coast of Spain). In
Italy it was called Majolica or Maiolica. In France this
type of ware was imported from Florence Italy and was named
Faience. Later the Dutch got into the act and produced
a blue and white ware using the same technology, and was manufactured
in the town of Delft, Holland. The British called it Delftware.
